INTRODUCTION
This protocol outlines the safe and regulated administration of hyaluronic acid using the Bio Aesthetic Points (BAP) technique, ensuring compliance with UK aesthetic standards, including MHRA, Save Face, JCCP, and internal HAUS OF ÄSTHETIK protocols such as Record Keeping, Infection Control, Consent, and Medicines Management.

Only qualified Doctors, Dentists, or Registered Nurses with accredited training may perform BAP technique treatments. A face-to-face consultation and informed consent are mandatory before treatment.

TREATMENT INDICATION
The BAP technique is designed for:

  • Improvement in skin hydration, turgor, and elasticity

  • Bio-remodelling of ageing, lax or crepey skin

  • Targeting the malar and sub-malar regions for optimal facial rejuvenation

PRODUCT SUITABILITY

  • Stabilised Hyaluronic Acid products indicated for bio-remodelling (e.g., Profhilo)

  • Must be CE-marked and MHRA-compliant

PRODUCT STORAGE

  • Store between 2°C and 25°C in original sterile packaging

  • Do not freeze

  • Record batch number and expiry in patient notes

STAFF REQUIREMENTS

  • Qualified and insured Aesthetic Clinicians

  • Specialist training in advanced injection techniques

PATIENT ELIGIBILITY Patients must:

  • Be over 18 years old

  • Present with mild to moderate skin laxity or crepiness

  • Not be pregnant, breastfeeding, or have contraindications

EXCLUSION CRITERIA

  • Under 18 years old

  • Pregnancy or lactation

  • Active skin infections or inflammatory skin conditions

  • History of keloids or autoimmune conditions

  • Use of anticoagulants (unless cleared by GP)

PREPARATION

  • Gather sterile equipment: HA syringe, 29G/30G needle, alcohol wipes, gloves, gauze, sharps container

  • Bring HA to room temperature

  • Attach sterile needle

PRE-TREATMENT ASSESSMENT

  • Full consultation and medical history

  • Clinical photography

  • Explanation of risks and benefits

  • Informed consent signed

INJECTION SITES (FACE) The BAP technique uses 5 injection points per side of the face:

  • Zygomatic Protrusion (cheekbone prominence)

  • Nasolabial Fold (approx. 2cm lateral to nose)

  • Lower Cheek/Jawline (2cm above mandibular angle)

  • Preauricular Region (anterior to tragus)

  • Chin Point (1.5cm lateral to mental crease)

INJECTION TECHNIQUE

  • Depth: Deep dermis or superficial subcutaneous layer

  • Needle: 29G/30G

  • Volume: 0.2ml per point (total 2ml)

  • Injection Method: Slow bolus

  • Post-injection: Gentle massage for diffusion

RATIONALISATION OF SITES

  • These points avoid large vessels and nerves

  • Designed for optimal diffusion into malar/sub-malar regions

  • Selected to maximise efficacy while reducing risk

ADDITIONAL TREATMENT AREAS

  • Neck: 10-point BAP configuration

  • Body (arms, abdomen, knees): 10-20 points depending on area size

  • Depth remains superficial subcutaneous

SIDE EFFECTS

  • Redness/swelling (90%)

  • Bruising (50%)

  • Temporary nodules (40%)

  • Infection (<1%)

  • Allergic reaction (<0.1%)

AFTERCARE

  • No touching or makeup for 6-24 hours

  • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, intense exercise for 48 hours

  • No saunas/steam rooms for 48 hours

  • Stay hydrated

FOLLOW-UP AND MAINTENANCE

  • Session 1: Day 0

  • Session 2: Week 4

  • Review at 8-12 weeks

  • Maintenance: Every 6 months

DOCUMENTATION

  • Record batch number, expiry, injection sites, dose per site

REGULATORY ALIGNMENT

  • Aligned with Save Face, JCCP, MHRA, and CQC frameworks

  • Annual review or earlier if required by legislative change
