How Does the Treatment Work?
The Depressor Anguli Oris (DAO) muscle extends from the corners of the mouth down to the jawline and is responsible for pulling the mouth downward. When this muscle is overactive, it can cause the corners of the mouth to remain pulled down even when the face is at rest, giving an appearance of sadness or dissatisfaction.
By carefully injecting botulinum toxin into the DAO muscle, we can:
• Reduce the downward pull at the corners of the mouth.
• Allow the natural lifting muscles (Zygomaticus Major and Minor) to work more effectively, creating a subtly lifted and relaxed expression.
• Prevent deep marionette lines from forming over time.
• Restore a more balanced, youthful mouth shape without affecting speech or facial expressions.
This treatment is often combined with dermal fillers to address volume loss around the mouth and further enhance results.
