Policy Owner: Managing Director

1. Purpose

This policy sets out the Equality Impact Assessment (EIA) process at HAUS OF ÄSTHETIK to ensure that our services are inclusive, accessible, and free from discrimination. It outlines how we identify and mitigate potential inequalities that may arise in the provision of aesthetic treatments, particularly relating to access, protected characteristics, clinical eligibility, and safeguarding. This supports our commitment to delivering fair, person-centred care in accordance with the Equality Act 2010 and regulatory frameworks.

2. Regulatory & Legal Framework

This document supports compliance with:

  • Equality Act 2010

  • CQC Regulation 10 – Dignity & Respect

  • CQC Regulation 9 – Person-Centred Care

  • Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014

  • Save Face Standards for Ethical Practice

  • NICE NG86 – Shared Decision Making & Patient Involvement

  • NHS Accessible Information Standard (AIS)

3. Scope

This policy applies to:

  • All clinical and non-clinical staff

  • Temporary, locum, or subcontracted professionals

  • All patients receiving treatment at the clinic

  • Visitors and members of the public entering the premises

4. Identified Barriers & Mitigations

4.1 Premises Accessibility

  • The clinic is located on the first floor of a heritage property and does not have a lift.

  • There are four steps at the main entrance, a staircase to the first floor, and a single step from the reception to the treatment room.

Reasonable Adjustments in Place:

  • Accessibility is discussed with all patients at booking.

  • Virtual consultations are offered for those unable to access the premises.

  • Alternative treatment sites with accessible entry are available via referral.

  • Handrails, PIR lighting, and high-visibility edging have been installed.

  • All staff are briefed to assist patients with mobility concerns.

4.2 Age & Consent

  • Treatments are offered to patients aged 13+, including Mesoestetic Blemiderm Peel for active acne and post-acne scarring.

  • Staff are trained in Gillick competence assessment, and parental consent is required when appropriate.

Safeguarding Measures:

  • Enhanced DBS checks for all clinical staff.

  • Safeguarding Policy and Referral Pathway are in place.

  • All under-18s are treated under the strict safeguarding supervision of the parent or guardian.

4.3 Disability, Sensory & Cognitive Needs

  • Patients with sensory impairments, neurodiversity (e.g., autism), or learning difficulties may require additional support.

Adjustments Include:

  • Offering quieter appointment times.

  • Allowing extended consultations where needed.

  • Easy-read versions or verbal explanations of documents.

  • Staff trained in autism-friendly and accessible communication.

4.4 Language & Communication

  • Patients with limited English proficiency or reading difficulties may be disadvantaged.

Adjustments Include:

  • Use of translation services or interpreters on request.

  • Large print, digital, and audio formats of clinic information.

  • Clear signage and simplified consent processes where appropriate.

4.5 Cultural, Religious & Gender Considerations

  • Patient dignity and preferences around modesty, gender of practitioner, or cultural beliefs are respected.

Adjustments Include:

  • Option to request a gender-specific clinician.

  • Private changing areas and discreet service delivery.

  • All treatments are conducted in a professional, sensitive manner.

4.6 Environmental Considerations

  • The clinic uses a Nespresso Momento machine for staff and guest refreshments.

  • This unit is regularly cleaned, descaled, and water is refreshed daily to mitigate any hygiene risks. It is not used for clinical treatment preparation.

5. Remote Access & Consultation

  • Face-to-face appointments are preferred for initial consultations.

  • However, where access is restricted, virtual consultations may be offered for eligibility assessments, follow-ups, or prescribing decisions in accordance with CQC and GMC/NMC guidance.

  • A standalone Remote Prescribing and Consultation Policy is in development to support safe virtual care pathways.

6. Staff Responsibilities

  • All staff must complete Equality, Diversity & Human Rights training on induction and every 3 years.

  • Staff must report any concerns about discrimination or accessibility barriers via the Complaints or Incident Reporting Policy.

  • The Governance Lead monitors patient feedback and staff engagement data to identify any unaddressed inequalities.

7. Monitoring & Review

    • Patient complaint or feedback

    • Changes to the premises or service structure

    • Changes in legal or regulatory guidance

This assessment is reviewed annually or in response to:

  • Audits and patient satisfaction surveys will include questions on accessibility and equality to support continuous improvement.

8. Approval & Ownership

This policy forms part of HAUS OF ÄSTHETIK’s commitment to inclusive, equitable and dignified care, and aligns with our Clinical Governance Framework. It must be read alongside related policies on Safeguarding, Consent, Infection Control, Remote Consultation, and Complaints Handling.
