Fire Safety Policy

1. Purpose

This Fire Safety Policy outlines the fire prevention, detection, response, and training protocols in place at Haus Of Ästhetik, 4 Portland Square, Bakewell, to ensure the safety of staff, patients, visitors, and the premises. It ensures compliance with:

  • Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005

  • Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974

  • Care Quality Commission (CQC) Regulation 15: Premises and Equipment

  • British Standards BS 5306 & BS 5839

  • Save Face Accreditation Standards

 

2. Scope

This policy applies to:

  • All clinical and non-clinical staff

  • Visiting practitioners

  • Clients and visitors within the clinic

  • Contractors or delivery personnel entering the premises

 

3. Fire Safety Responsibilities

Responsible Person:

Owen Dickinson (Managing Director) is designated as the Responsible Person under the Fire Safety Order.


Staff Responsibilities:

  • Ensure their own and others’ safety

  • Follow all fire evacuation procedures

  • Attend mandatory fire safety training and drills

 

4. Premises Fire Safety Overview

  • Structure: Traditional stone-built commercial property with timber joists

  • Heating: No gas – entirely electric

  • Floors: A Combination of solid flooring and carpeting

  • Fire Doors: 30-minute fire doors throughout the building

  • No central fire alarm system, but key areas are covered with detectors and sounders

 

5. Fire Detection & Protection Systems

  • Smoke and Heat Detectors: Installed in the entrance, reception, toilets, and clinic room

    • Main entrance

    • Top of stairs (between Office 1 and 2)

    • System commisioned by the Landlord and Tested Every Friday.

Break Glass Call Points:

  • Sounders & Flashing Beacon: Located in the clinic room to accommodate patients who are hard of hearing

    • CO₂ extinguishers: Office 1 and Office 2

    • Foam extinguishers: Office 1 and Office 2

    • Inspected annually and logged

 

Fire Extinguishers:

 

  • Fire Control Panel Access: Located in the centre of Portland Square for emergency services

 

6. Fire Prevention Measures

  • No naked flames or candles permitted on site

  • Flammable materials (e.g., alcohol-based cleansers) stored in a locked cupboard

  • Waste materials are cleared daily

    • All wiring is compliant with UK standards

    • Annual PAT testing

    • Consumer unit located in a locked cupboard at the foot of the stairs

 

Electrical safety:

  • No smoking policy: In force both inside and immediately outside the clinic

 

7. Emergency Lighting & Signage

  • Emergency Exit Signs: Illuminated above doors

  • Lighting: PIR-activated lighting on stairs and key escape routes

 

8. Fire Escape Routes & Assembly Point

  • Primary Exit: Via the main staircase to Portland Square

  • Secondary Exit: Through the adjoining property (Air Ambulance Office via Office 2)

  • Assembly Point: Outside Portland Square main gate

  • Fire Doors: Always kept unobstructed, open outward, and easily operable

 

9. Fire Training & Drills

  • Induction training: Fire safety included for all new staff

  • Annual training: Fire extinguisher use, evacuation procedures

  • Annual fire drill: Documented and reviewed

  • Staff competency: All staff must know their nearest exit and procedure

 

10. Special Considerations

  • Patients with mobility issues: Staff will assist during evacuation

  • Hearing impairments: Flashing beacon and audible sounder in the clinic room

  • No sleeping accommodation exists in the building

 

11. Fire Safety for Equipment (Inc. Nespresso Momentò)

  • The Nespresso Momentò machine uses a self-contained water tank and electric heating.

  • The water tank is emptied daily and cleaned following manufacturer protocols

  • The machine is regularly descaled and maintained per internal alerts

  • PAT tested annually

  • Positioned away from flammable materials and used only during staffed hours

 

12. Fire Emergency Procedure

If Fire is Suspected or Detected:

  1. Activate the nearest Call Point (break glass)

  2. Call 999 and notify emergency services

  3. Evacuate all persons immediately using the primary or secondary exit

  4. Guide patients and visitors, do not leave anyone behind

  5. Only use extinguishers if safe and trained to do so

  6. Close all doors behind you

  7. Proceed to the Assembly Point

  8. Do not re-enter until authorised by the fire services

 

13. Record Keeping & Review

  • All fire safety records, extinguisher inspections, and training logs are securely stored.

  • Fire drills, incidents, and equipment checks are recorded and reviewed by the Governance Lead.

  • This policy is reviewed annually or immediately after any material change or incident.
