INTRODUCTION

  • This protocol ensures that Profhilo injections for skin hydration and collagen stimulation are administered safely, effectively, and in accordance with UK regulations, including MHRA, Save Face, JCCP, and HAUS OF ÄSTHETIK’s internal policies such as Medicines Management, Infection Control, Record Keeping, Consent, and Patient Safety Policies.

  • Only trained medical professionals (Doctors, Dentists, and Registered Nurses) with accredited training in injectable skin rejuvenation treatments may administer Profhilo.

  • A face-to-face consultation is mandatory before treatment.

 

INDICATIONS FOR TREATMENT

  • Profhilo is an injectable hyaluronic acid (HA) treatment designed for deep skin hydration and bio-remodelling to improve skin laxity and quality.

  • Suitable treatment areas:

    • Face

    • Neck

    • Décolletage

    • Hands

    • Upper arms

    • Abdomen

    • Knees

  • Profhilo is not a dermal filler but a skin booster that spreads evenly to improve hydration, elasticity, and firmness.

 

PRODUCT STORAGE INFORMATION

  • Store Profhilo at 2-25°C in its original sterile packaging.

  • Do not freeze the product.

  • Batch numbers and expiry dates must be recorded in the patient’s records.

 

STAFF REQUIREMENTS

  • Only Doctors, Dentists, and Registered Nurses with specialist training in injectable treatments may administer Profhilo.

  • Practitioners must hold valid indemnity insurance and operate within clinical governance standards.

 

PATIENT ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • Patients must:

    • Be over 18 years old.

    • Have mild to moderate skin laxity or crepey skin.

    • Desire improvement in skin texture, hydration, and firmness.

    • Understand that Profhilo is not a volumising filler but a skin-conditioning treatment.

 

EXCLUSION CRITERIA

  • Contraindications include:

    • Patients under 18 years old.

    • Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals.

    • Those with severe allergies to hyaluronic acid.

    • Active skin infections, eczema, or psoriasis in the treatment area.

    • History of keloid scarring or autoimmune disorders requiring immunosuppressants.

    • Patients on anticoagulants or blood-thinning medication (GP approval required).

 

PREPARATION OF PROFHILO FOR TREATMENT

  • Gather all required materials, including:

    • Profhilo pre-filled syringe (check expiry date and batch number).

    • Syringes and 29G or 30G needles.

    • Sterile alcohol wipes or Chlorhexidine solution for skin preparation.

    • Gloves, gauze, and a sharps disposal container.

  • Preparation process:

    • Ensure the Profhilo syringe is at room temperature before use.

    • Attach a sterile 29G or 30G needle before administration.

 

PRE-TREATMENT ASSESSMENT

  • A full consultation must be conducted, including:

    • Medical history and assessment of skin laxity.

    • Pre-treatment photographs for medical documentation.

    • Full discussion of risks, downtime, and expected results.

    • Confirmation of exclusion criteria and allergy history.

    • Informed consent must be signed before proceeding.

 

TREATMENT PROCEDURE

  • Preparation:

    • Mark the treatment area following the Bio Aesthetic Points (BAP) technique.

    • Cleanse with Chlorhexidine or 70% isopropyl alcohol.

    • Local anaesthetic is not required as Profhilo is well tolerated.

  • Injection Technique:

    • Inject into the deep dermis or superficial subcutaneous layer.

    • Use a slow bolus technique at each point.

    • Standard dosage:

      • Face & Neck: 2ml total (1ml per side, 5 injection points per side)

      • Body Areas: 2-3ml total depending on the area

    • Gently massage the area post-injection to evenly distribute the product.

  • Injection Positions and Depths:

    • Face (Bio Aesthetic Points - BAP Technique):

      • 5 injection points per side:

        • Zygomatic prominence (cheekbone area)

        • Nasolabial fold region (beside nose)

        • Lower cheek/jawline area

        • Preauricular region (in front of ear)

        • Chin area

      • Depth: Deep dermis or superficial subcutaneous layer

    • Neck:

      • 10 injection points along the jawline and central neck

      • Depth: Superficial subcutaneous layer

    • Décolletage and Hands:

      • Spread evenly across the treatment area

      • Depth: Superficial subcutaneous layer

 

SIDE EFFECTS & MANAGEMENT

  • Common Side Effects (Temporary, 24-72 hours):

    • Mild redness and swelling at injection sites (90%)

    • Tenderness or slight bruising (50%)

    • Small lumps at injection sites (40%) - Resolves within 24 hours

  • Rare Side Effects:

    • Prolonged swelling or nodules (5%) - Usually resolves within 5-7 days.

    • Infection (1%) - Prescribe antibiotics if necessary.

  • Serious Adverse Effects (Seek Medical Attention Immediately):

    • Severe allergic reaction or anaphylaxis (0.1%)

    • Vascular occlusion (extremely rare due to injection depth)

 

AFTERCARE ADVICE

  • Avoid touching or applying pressure to the treated area for 6 hours.

  • No makeup for 24 hours to prevent infection.

  • Avoid alcohol and caffeine for 24-48 hours.

  • No excessive sweating (gym, sauna, steam room) for 48 hours.

  • Stay hydrated to optimise hyaluronic acid benefits.

 

MONITORING & FOLLOW-UP

  • Profhilo treatment is typically a two-session protocol:

    • Second session is scheduled 4 weeks after the initial treatment.

    • Patients should return for assessment at 8-12 weeks post-treatment to evaluate results.

  • Additional maintenance treatments every 6 months for sustained results.

  • Ensure proper documentation of batch number, dosage, and injection sites.
