1. Purpose

HAUS OF ÄSTHETIK is committed to providing comprehensive post-treatment follow-up and aftercare support to ensure patient safety, satisfaction, and optimal treatment outcomes. This policy ensures that patients receive clear, evidence-based aftercare instructions and have access to follow-up care if required.

This policy aligns with:

   • Care Quality Commission (CQC) Regulation 12 – Safe Care & Treatment

   • Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014

   • National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) Guidelines for Post-Treatment Care

   • Save Face Standards for Aftercare & Patient Support

   • General Medical Council (GMC) & Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) Ethical Guidelines

   • UK Resuscitation Council Guidance on Complication Management

This policy ensures that every patient receives structured, timely, and effective aftercare instructions and support following their aesthetic procedure.

 

2. Scope

This policy applies to:

   • All clinical staff providing post-treatment care and follow-up consultations.

   • Agency, temporary, and subcontracted personnel involved in patient aftercare.

   • Senior Leadership Team responsible for patient experience and clinical governance.

   • All patients receiving treatments at HAUS OF ÄSTHETIK.

 

3. Legal & Regulatory Requirements

3.1 CQC Regulation 12 – Safe Care & Treatment

Under this regulation, HAUS OF ÄSTHETIK must:

   • Ensure patients receive appropriate follow-up care and information after treatment.

   • Monitor post-treatment outcomes and provide support in case of complications.

   • Maintain clear and accessible aftercare resources for all treatments.

3.2 Save Face & GMC Standards for Aftercare

   • Patients must be provided with verbal and written aftercare instructions following their procedure.

   • Clinics must offer post-treatment follow-up options and emergency support if needed.

   • Patients must be made aware of potential complications and when to seek medical attention.

 

4. Aftercare Process & Follow-Up Framework

4.1 Immediate Aftercare in Clinic

   • Following treatment, patients will receive verbal aftercare instructions tailored to their procedure.

   • Practitioners will ensure patients fully understand post-treatment expectations, potential side effects, and self-care measures.

   • Patients will be advised on what to expect in the hours and days following their treatment.

4.2 Written Aftercare Instructions

   • All patients will receive an email containing their aftercare information as a PDF attachment relevant to their procedure(s).

   • Printed aftercare leaflets will also be available upon request.

   • Written instructions will include signs of complications and escalation protocols.

4.3 Scheduled Follow-Up Appointments

   • For treatments requiring follow-up, patients will be booked for a review appointment within an appropriate timeframe.

   • Injectable procedures (e.g., dermal fillers, botulinum toxin) will have standard follow-ups at two weeks post-procedure.

   • Patients experiencing side effects or concerns may be offered an additional review sooner.

4.4 Post-Treatment Communication & Support

   • Patients can contact the clinic via email or telephone for post-treatment queries or concerns.

   • Aesthetic practitioners will respond to patient inquiries within 24 hours.

   • Urgent concerns will be escalated to the senior clinical team for prompt action.

4.5 Emergency & Adverse Event Management

   • Patients will be provided with clear guidance on when to seek urgent medical attention.

   • In the event of an adverse reaction, patients must contact the clinic immediately for assessment.

   • Main concern that Normally Arrises is the need for reassurance

   • Multiple complications can occur from Dermal Fillers. The Action plan and flow chart is as attached, published by Teoxane for post filler complication management.  

   • If required, Vascular Occlusion is being considered please review the, Emergency Treatment and Referral Policy, outlining emergency intervention or referral to a medical professional will be arranged.

Multiple complications and conditions can occur from Botulinum Toxin injections, following the procedure, these concerns are management strategies are outlined in the NICE guidance of 2029, please see the table above or Click Here For the Guidance.

 

5. Documentation & Compliance

5.1 Patient Record Management

   • All aftercare interactions, including follow-up appointments and patient queries, will be recorded in the patient’s Insync Consent file.

   • Any complications, side effects, or additional treatments required will be documented in compliance with CQC guidelines.

5.2 Audit & Quality Assurance

   • Quarterly audits will be conducted on patient aftercare compliance and satisfaction.

   • Feedback from patients will be used to improve aftercare instructions and support services.

   • Staff will undergo training updates to ensure consistent delivery of high-quality aftercare.

 

6. Staff Training & Development

   • Annual Aftercare & Complication Management Training is mandatory for all practitioners.

   • CPD sessions will cover best practices in patient support, risk mitigation, and post-treatment communication.

   • Staff will be trained to provide compassionate and effective post-procedure care.

 

7. Review & Continuous Improvement

   • This policy will be reviewed annually or following significant patient safety concerns.

   • Compliance with CQC, Save Face, NICE, and GMC standards will be continuously monitored.

   • Patient feedback will be used to refine aftercare protocols and enhance service quality.
