Understanding Sclerotherapy

What is Sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy is a medical treatment used to eliminate varicose veins and spider veins. During this procedure, a small injection of a sclerosing solution is injected directly into the affected veins. The solution causes the veins to seal shut, forcing blood to reroute through healthier veins. This method is popular because it is minimally invasive and can significantly reduce the appearance of these veins on the skin, enhancing overall leg aesthetics.

How Does the Procedure Work?

During a typical sclerotherapy session, a healthcare provider will first assess the affected area. They then use a fine needle to inject the sclerosing agent into the veins. It usually takes about 30 to 60 minutes for the entire procedure, and patients can often return to normal activities shortly afterward. However, there might be some mild discomfort during and after the procedure, but most people find the process tolerable.

Benefits and Recovery

Sclerotherapy is a highly effective way to treat varicose veins, with many patients seeing significant improvements shortly after treatment. The main benefit is the cosmetic improvement, as it reduces the visibility of the veins significantly. Additionally, patients might experience relief from symptoms like aching or swelling. Recovery typically involves wearing compression stockings and avoiding prolonged standing or strenuous activities for a few days, so the body can heal properly.

Frequently Asked Questions About Anti-Wrinkle Injections

Do I need an initial consultation before anti-wrinkle treatment?

• Yes, a face-to-face consultation with a medically qualified practitioner is required before your first treatment.

• This allows us to assess your suitability, medical history, and treatment goals.

• A prescription for botulinum toxin is issued only after this consultation.

What products do you use for anti-wrinkle treatment?

• We use premium UK-licensed brands such as BOTOX® (Allergan), Nuceiva®, Bocuoture and Xeomin and other approved botulinum toxin type A products.

• The choice of brand is based on your clinical needs and personal preferences.

What is botulinum toxin and how does it work?

• It works by blocking the release of acetylcholine, preventing muscle contraction and softening expression lines.

• It is metabolised and excreted naturally from the body over time.

What’s the difference between BOTOX® and dermal fillers?

• BOTOX® relaxes muscles to smooth lines.

• Dermal fillers restore lost volume or enhance features like cheeks, lips, and jawline.

• They often complement each other in a full-face rejuvenation plan.

• Yes, but avoid pressure changes (like long-haul flights) within the first 24 hours if possible.

Can I go in the sun or use sunbeds after?

• Avoid direct sun exposure, heat, saunas, and steam rooms for at least 48 hours.

Can I exercise after treatment?

• Avoid strenuous exercise for 24–48 hours post-treatment.

• Light walking is fine.

Can I drink alcohol after the treatment?

• Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before and after to minimise bruising and swelling.

• Yes, but spacing is key. Microneedling or chemical peels should be scheduled before or at least 1–2 weeks after toxin treatment.

Can I have BOTOX® before or after semi-permanent makeup?

• Generally, semi-permanent makeup should be done first.

• If not possible, allow at least 2 weeks between procedures.

• We recommend a follow-up appointment 2–3 weeks after your first treatment.

• Adjustments (if needed) can be made at this time.

Do I need follow-ups every time?

• Not necessarily. Once you’re on a regular treatment plan, follow-ups are optional unless concerns arise.

Can men have anti-wrinkle treatment?

• Absolutely. Many of our patients are male.

• Doses may be slightly higher due to stronger facial muscles.

• Results may take a little longer to achieve due to muscle groups

• We however don't discriminate and change different rates for males and females.

Will people know I’ve had it done?

• Not if it’s done well.

• Expect compliments on looking ‘refreshed’ rather than ‘treated.’

How often should I have treatments?

• Most patients return every 3–4 months to maintain results.

• We offer subscription plans with 3 or 4 sessions a year for convenience.
